About
Open Day
How did the largest moss garden in the world find its way to East Hampton, New York? How do you create a unique Asian influenced garden in Eastern Long Island? Start with acres and acres of deep emerald green moss—in some places a dense carpet over 14 inches deep. Add a special assortment of plants, including some that grew on earth more than 100 million years ago. Carve into the woods a Japanese stroll garden, a Japanese stone garden, a Japanese bridge garden, a Chinese pond garden, a Himalayan birch grove, sand dunes, and multiple waterfalls hidden among the pines. Highlight the gardens with antique ornaments collected from all parts of the world. The result: a misty window into the Asian aesthetic. As an aside, "Yugen" is a Japanese aesthetic term relating to the subtle mystery and transience of beauty, like clouds passing across the moon. The garden has been featured in several newspapers and magazines.
This garden's estimated size is 20 acres.
