Bear Creek Farm
Stanfordville, NY
About
Tucked in the rolling landscapes of Dutchess County, award-winning Bear Creek Farm is celebrated as one of America’s most extraordinary flower farms, renowned for its breathtaking dahlias and heirloom chrysanthemums. Here, the artistry of cultivation meets the serenity of nature, offering visitors a deeply immersive experience where growing fields blend harmoniously with thoughtfully designed spaces. Each meadow and garden area carries its own character, inviting visitors to experience the farm’s diversity and charm.
The entrance sets the tone: stone pillars mark the gateway to a curving driveway lined with lilies, red maples, and river birches. At the center of the property, a 150-year-old farmhouse stands surrounded by remarkable limelight hydrangeas and towering trees, including a 350-year-old sycamore, its base softened by an apron of spirea. Nearby, Norway spruces add texture and depth to the landscape.
A 120-year-old barn, now transformed into an event and performance venue, combines history and modern purpose. This carefully restored space, bordered by ornamental grasses, has earned acclaim from *Westchester Home* magazine and HGTV’s “Faces of Design.” It’s an inviting space for gatherings, blending rustic charm with understated elegance.
As you wander, unexpected treasures emerge: ninebark bushes frame raspberry brambles, while an old trumpet vine cascades over a converted tractor-trailer, now brimming with flowers. Pathways wind through crabapple, pear, and katsura trees, offering shade and seasonal beauty. The natural pond, bordered by willow bushes and a grapevine arbor, is a haven for wildlife and a serene place to pause.
Flowers are everywhere: swaths of Japanese anemones, rows of peonies, and, of course, the iconic dahlias that define the farm. A new project is underway to cultivate six acres of native flowers and grasses, promising a stunning new meadow for visitors to enjoy by 2026.
Bear Creek Farm is a place of discovery, where each turn reveals something new—a handmade stone grill, pottery from around the world, or the gentle movement of grasses in the breeze. With its blend of natural beauty and thoughtful details, the farm invites you to slow down, look closer, and take in the quiet magic of the landscape.
This garden’s estimated size is 7-1/2 acres.
